IronCupcake History

The IronCupcake competitions were the creation of Sandy Ploy, Cupcake Queen in Milwaukee, Wisonsin, and Chef Jeff Reinke in April 2008. They both had a mutual interest in baking cupcakes using obscure ingredients, including steeped cigarettes, bacon and chilli pepper. When they challenged each other to a bake-off, using Wasabi as the main ingredient, the IronCupcake challenges were born!

IronCupcake:Leeds

After stumbling across the competition on the internet, IronCupcake:Leeds began in September 2009. There were only a handful of people at the first competition, “Cupcakes of the World” in Mojo’s, but the feedback was great and the monthly competitions began to get more and more interest. A couple of months, and a few hundred tweets later, the competitions attracted too many attendees for Mojo’s so The Adelphi became the new home.

Get involved

The competitions are now attracting  around 13 entries per month, and a whole load of hungry judges eager to taste the cakes. We’re always on the look out for new contenders, and anyone who enjoys eating cake can be one of the judges.
